My verdict: 4.5/5. TopCashback has paid me £1,636.17 across 123 tracked purchases since late 2023 — referral bonuses, a £120 payout for switching my mobile network, a VPN that ended up free, and a meal box that paid me. It has never missed a genuine purchase. It is not perfect: some cashback takes six months to arrive, and I've genuinely lost about £98 to declines. If you can live with those two catches, this is the easiest money in UK money-saving.

What is TopCashback?
TopCashback is the UK's biggest cashback site: you click through it to a retailer, buy what you were buying anyway, and a percentage of what you spent comes back to you weeks later. The retailer pays TopCashback a commission for sending you; TopCashback hands most of it to you. That's the entire trick — there's no catch hiding underneath it, which is the thing everyone asks first. (The community agrees: the top-voted answer on r/UKPersonalFinance's "is there a catch?" thread is simply "No catch. Use it for all your annual bills.")
It's free to join on the Classic tier. I pay for the Plus tier — £5 a year, and you'll see that fee taken from my own payout history below, because this review shows you everything.
I'm not going to pad this section: if you want the full mechanics, tracking windows and how the money actually flows, I've written a separate plain-English guide — how TopCashback works. This page is about what actually happened when I used it for three years.
What I've actually earned (the full breakdown)
Every pound of my £1,636.17, by where it came from:
| Source | Roughly | The story |
|---|---|---|
| Referral bonuses | £835 | 33 friends and family signed up through me — bonuses ranged £15–£40 depending on the promo era. How I did it |
| Switching bounties | £285 | Three paid me £120 for a mobile switch. GoCardless paid £85 for a sign-up. My car insurance switch paid £45. My energy switch to Fuse paid £22 on top of better rates |
| Software & VPNs | £132 | McAfee at 100% cashback (£89.23 — my antivirus was free) and a VPN year that cost me nothing (£42.51 back on £42.62) |
| Big retail purchases | £215 | The star: £124.58 back on a £958 jewellery purchase — 13%. Plus £35.97 on a £1,199 Argos order, and 20–22% promo rates I caught at New Look and ASDA |
| Gift cards | £45 | Small percentages that add up — including 6% on Primark, the only Primark discount that exists |
| Travel | £34 | £27.19 back on a £247 Expedia booking |
| Food | £21 | Gousto's new-customer offer paid me £20.00 on an £18.50 box — I was paid £1.50 to eat for a week |
| Everything else | £69 | Meal deliveries, my Meta ad spend (yes, ads pay cashback), eSIMs that pay more than they cost |

That last column is the honest answer to "is TopCashback worth it": I didn't earn £1,636 by shopping more. I earned it by routing things I already did — bills, switches, presents, food — through one extra click.
Getting paid: what actually happens
This is where cashback sites live or die, so here's my complete payout record, not a summary: roughly 20 withdrawals between December 2024 and August 2026, almost monthly once I got into the habit. Biggest single payout: £216.20 by bank transfer. Everything I've requested has arrived.
Two things nobody tells you, from my own records:
1. Speed depends entirely on the category. My Gousto cashback confirmed in 4 days. My Uswitch eSIM cashback has an estimated payable of 26 weeks. My energy switch: also 26 weeks. Retail usually lands in weeks; utilities, insurance and finance take months — that's the retailer's confirmation window, not TopCashback sitting on your money. If you see reviews complaining about slow payouts, this is almost always what they've hit. Full breakdown: how long TopCashback takes.
2. The gift-card bonus is real, but smaller than advertised. Withdrawing into gift cards instead of your bank adds a bonus — advertised as "up to 5%" (up to 30% on select brands). Across my eight real redemptions the bonus came out at 2–3% (£25.00 became a £25.75 Farmfoods card; £20.11 became £20.51 of Amazon credit). Free extra money, yes — just don't expect the headline number on every brand.
The honest downsides
The waits are genuinely long on the best-paying stuff. The bounties that make cashback exciting — energy, insurance, broadband, SIMs — are exactly the ones with 26-week windows. Treat cashback as a bonus that arrives eventually, never as money you're owed next week.
I've lost about £98 for real. My account shows £199.54 "declined", which looks alarming — but more than half of that is duplicate tracking being tidied up (the same McAfee purchase tracked twice; the copy was declined, the real one paid in full). My true losses: two VPN purchases the merchants refused (£67.83 and £18.36) and a few small fashion orders. Which leads to the stat that actually matters: in 123 purchases over three years, TopCashback's tracking has never missed a genuine transaction of mine. The scary column is mostly housekeeping.

Amazon isn't on it. No cashback site has Amazon UK. My workaround: I take my payouts as Amazon gift cards with the bonus on top.
Plus costs £5/year — quietly deducted from your earnings (you'll find it as a line in my payout history). Worth it for me; the Classic free tier is where everyone should start. My full Plus review.
The three plays that made me the most
- Referrals — £835. Thirty-three sign-ups at £15–£40 each. This is a third of my lifetime earnings and most members ignore it completely. The exact approach.
- Switch bounties — £285. The £120 from Three is my single favourite line in my whole account. When a contract ends, I check TopCashback before I renew anything. The switch-bounty playbook.
- The 100%+ windows — my "paid to buy" file. A free VPN year, free antivirus, a meal box that paid me £1.50, eSIMs that profit £4–9 each. These offers rotate — here's where I track the live ones.
My do's and don'ts after three years
Do:
- Route every annual bill and renewal through it — insurance, energy, broadband, mobile. That's where the £45–£120 bounties live, and you were switching anyway.
- Check TopCashback before you buy anything online. The habit takes five seconds; my £124.58 jewellery win happened only because checking had become a reflex.
- Withdraw regularly (mine's roughly monthly). Balances aren't bank-protected — money in your bank beats money on a dashboard.
- Take payouts as gift cards when the boost suits you — my real-world extra was 2–3% on brands I'd spend at anyway.
- Pounce on the rotating 100%+ windows — free VPNs, meal boxes that pay you. They appear for days, not months.
Don't:
- Don't buy anything you weren't already buying. Cashback on impulse spending is a discount on a mistake.
- Don't count pending money as yours — some of mine took 26 weeks to confirm.
- Don't panic at the "declined" column — check for a paid twin row first; most of mine were duplicate tracks being tidied, and the real purchase always paid.
- Don't shop with an ad-blocker fighting the tracking — clean click-through, same session, checkout without wandering off to other tabs.
- Don't hoard referral links for strangers — the £835 came from people I actually know trusting a link I actually use.
TopCashback vs Quidco (and the rest)
Trustpilot has TopCashback at 4.6/5 from 164,000+ reviews as I write this — the best score of any UK cashback site. But the honest answer to "is there anything better?" is: sometimes, per offer. Quidco currently runs a WorldRemit deal TopCashback dropped; Rakuten pays 50% on Temu vs TopCashback's 28%. Even MoneySavingExpert's advice is to check both before big purchases — mine is the same, which is why every guide on this site shows you who pays most for that specific purchase. Full comparison: TopCashback vs Quidco.
For everyday UK shopping, TopCashback is still the one I'd keep if I could keep only one — the retailer coverage and the payout record above are why.
Who should sign up (and who shouldn't)
Sign up if: you pay UK bills, renew insurance, or buy online at all — this is found money on autopilot, and the £1,636 above is what "autopilot" looked like for one normal household. Start with a bill or a switch, not a £9 shop — get one meaningful bounty tracking and you'll be convinced by your own dashboard, not by me.
Skip it if: you need money on a predictable schedule (the waits will frustrate you), or the buy-through-the-link step will tempt you into spending you wouldn't have done anyway. Cashback on stuff you didn't need is not saving.
→ Join TopCashback here — new members currently get a sign-up bonus, and yes, that's my referral-programme link: it costs you nothing and funds the testing on this site.
FAQ
Can TopCashback be trusted? In my three years: yes. £1,547.12 withdrawn and received, a 4.6 Trustpilot score from 164,000+ reviews, and not one genuine purchase missed by tracking. My only real losses were two merchants declining VPN cashback — about £86.
Does TopCashback actually work? My account says: 123 tracked purchases, £1,636.17 earned, ~20 successful payouts. It works. The skill is in choosing the offers — bounties and switches beat 1% retail rates by miles.
Does TopCashback charge a fee? The Classic membership is free, forever. Plus costs £5/year (taken from earnings) for higher rates and perks — optional, and you can see the fee in my own payout history above.
Is there anything better than TopCashback? For overall UK coverage, no. For specific offers, sometimes — Quidco and Rakuten occasionally pay more on individual merchants, which is why I check all three before anything big.
Which is better, Quidco or TopCashback? I use both; TopCashback is my primary. Rates flip per retailer, so the real answer is "whichever pays more for the thing you're buying today" — my comparison guide keeps score.
Is there a downside to cash back? Two real ones: long confirmation windows on the best offers (up to 26 weeks in my account), and the temptation to buy things because cashback exists. Avoid the second and the first is just patience.
Is cash back safe to use? Yes — you never hand cashback sites your card details for purchases; you buy from the retailer as normal. Your balance isn't FSCA-protected like a bank, so I withdraw regularly rather than hoarding (my rhythm: roughly monthly).
Every figure in this review comes from my own TopCashback account — screenshots throughout. Rates and offers mentioned were checked on 7 September 2026 and change frequently; the Bounty Watch page tracks what's live now.
