Every "best cashback sites" list ranks logos. This one ranks payouts — starting with the account I can actually show you: £1,636.17 earned and £1,547.12 withdrawn from TopCashback over three years, plus a Quidco account I keep as a rate-check. For the newer instant-cashback apps I've researched the mechanics and say plainly where I haven't spent my own money.

Here's how the UK's cashback sites really compare — by how they pay, how fast, and who each one suits.

1. TopCashback — the one I'd keep if I could only keep one

MoneySavingExpert found TopCashback offered the highest rate in over 70% of its checks, and my account agrees: it's where the money has actually landed. Three years, 123 tracked purchases, zero genuine purchases missed, about 20 payouts to my bank (biggest £216.20).

What makes it the primary rather than one of several:

• Bounties, not just percentages — £120 for switching to Three, £45 on car insurance via its own Compare service, £85 for a business sign-up.
• 100%+ intro offers on subscriptions that rotate through — McAfee paid 100% (£89.23), a meal box paid 108%.
• Referrals: £25 per friend (they get £10) — my single biggest stream at £835.
• Free Classic tier; Plus at £5/year (from earnings) for higher rates.

Honest downsides: payouts run 4 days to 26 weeks, and I've lost about £98 to genuine declines. Both documented, with receipts, in my full TopCashback review.

2. Quidco — the rate-check, and the one Premium favours heavy spenders

Quidco is the other giant (5,000+ retailers), owned by the Moneysupermarket group. Rates flip against TopCashback per retailer, per week — MSE's advice to "try Quidco too, particularly for larger purchases" is exactly how I use it. Its Premium tier (£1/month, only charged in months you earn) adds a 10% top-up to cashback, which beats TopCashback Plus if you earn £50+ most months. 3. Rakuten UK — fewer stores, punchy headline rates

Rakuten's UK arm covers around 500 stores — a fraction of the big two — but skews to big brands with high headline rates (16–19% on some fashion and tech lines when I looked) and runs periodic "10% extra cashback, up to £40" promotions across the board. It's the site that beat both TopCashback and Quidco for me on a Temu order. Worth a look for a specific big brand; not a primary for everyday breadth. I've not used its payout process myself — check their current schedule and minimum before relying on it.

4. JamDoughnut — instant, and it works in the shop

A different model: you buy a gift card in the app for the shop you're about to spend in, the cashback lands in seconds ("not days, weeks, and months"), and you pay with the card in store or online. Current examples: Costa 10%, The Body Shop 9%, Moss 8%, B&Q 5.5%, up to 20% on promotions, plus a £5 first-purchase bonus. The trade-off: you commit money to a gift card before you shop, and it only helps at listed brands. I haven't used it; the model is sound and Save the Student and Money to the Masses both rate it.

5. Cheddar — instant cashback with a bank licence behind it

Same gift-card mechanism as JamDoughnut, positioned around Tesco (up to 5%) and 100–200+ retailers including Nike, with "up to 15%" headline rates. Cashback hits instantly; cash out to your bank from £5 with no fees. It's FCA-regulated and a British Bank Awards winner, 250,000+ users, 4.7 on the App Store. Researched, not personally used — but the regulated status is a genuine plus for an app you're pre-loading money into.

6. EverUp — gift-card cashback, gamified

Buy gift cards from UK brands, earn Cashback Points and coins, turn them into rewards — with a prize-draw element layered on top. Scrimpr rates it best for supermarket gift cards. Personally I prefer cash to points-with-odds, but if you buy supermarket gift cards anyway it can pay well. Researched only.

7. Airtime Rewards — the set-and-forget one

Link your bank cards once; spend at partner retailers as normal; rewards accrue automatically and are redeemed as credit against your mobile phone bill. No clicking through, no gift cards — which is why Scrimpr calls it the best card-linked option. Rates are modest and it only pays at partner brands, but the effort is genuinely zero. Researched only.

How I'd combine them

• Primary: TopCashback — join once, use the browser reminder, route every switch, renewal and big purchase through it. (Join with £10 bonus)
• Rate-check: Quidco, for anything over ~£100.
• In-store top-up: one instant gift-card app (JamDoughnut or Cheddar) for coffee, DIY and supermarket runs.
• Zero-effort layer: Airtime Rewards linked to your everyday card.
