The biggest reason people earn nothing from cashback isn't rates — it's forgetting to click through. Of my 123 tracked TopCashback purchases, the ones that went wrong went wrong at that step: a second tab, a code from elsewhere, a purchase started on the retailer's site. TopCashback has three tools built to fix exactly that: the app, the browser extension, and Snap and Save for in-store receipts. Here's what each one actually does, which to use when, and the one tracking gotcha to know before you rely on the app.

This page is about the tools. For whether TopCashback is worth using at all, see my three-year review; for how the cashback itself works, the walkthrough.

Disclosure: links here are my referral links — free for you (you get a £10 bonus), and they fund the testing.

The TopCashback app (iOS & Android)

Free, and rated 5.0 from 30,000+ Google Play reviews. Everything the website does, in your pocket:

  • Search 5,500+ retailers and see the live rate before you buy.
  • Shop inside the app: tap "Get cashback" and the retailer opens in the app's browser, so the tracking link is set before you shop.
  • Favourites and rate alerts: star retailers you use and get notified when a rate is boosted — how I catch the 100% windows I write about on Bounty Watch.
  • Withdraw from your phone: bank transfer, PayPal, or gift cards with a bonus, straight from the Earnings tab.
  • Snap and Save lives here too (below).

The gotcha — app-to-app tracking. The app's own browser tracks fine. Problems start when the retailer's site bounces you into the retailer's own app (SHEIN, Argos and others nudge you to). Purchases completed in a retailer's app frequently don't track back to TopCashback. Rule: if a retailer pushes you into its app, stay in the browser or switch to desktop. Retailers' listings say this in their exclusions — SHEIN's is a good example.

The browser extension (desktop)

Install once in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari and it does the remembering for you:

  • Lands on a retailer with cashback available? A pop-up tells you the rate and lets you activate cashback in one click, without going to TopCashback first.
  • Surfaces live voucher codes approved for the listing — the safe ones that don't void cashback.
  • Search results get a small badge showing which shops pay cashback.

For anyone who shops on a laptop this is the single highest-value habit-fix in cashback. It's how "I forgot to click through" stops being a thing. It won't save you from the other classic mistake — pasting an unapproved code from a coupon site — so keep to the codes it shows.

Snap and Save (in-store receipts)

Cashback for shopping in a physical shop: TopCashback lists featured products (typically grocery, drink and household lines) and you photograph your receipt in the app after buying them in-store; the cashback for those items is credited to your account. It's the one part of TopCashback that works at a supermarket till.

Honest framing: offers are on specific products and rotate weekly, so it's a bonus on things you were buying anyway rather than a reason to shop. It sits alongside the gift-card route as the way to get TopCashback value on in-store spend.

Which tool, when

Situation Use
Shopping on a laptop/desktop Extension — one-click activation, never forget
Shopping on your phone App — shop inside its browser; avoid retailer apps
Checking a rate before a big purchase App (favourites/alerts) or site
Supermarket / in-store Snap and Save for featured products; gift cards for the rest
Withdrawing App or site — identical

My own setup is the extension on the laptop for anything big (insurance, electronics, travel) and the app for rate checks and payouts. The 123-purchase record on this site is the result of that combination plus the rules in what to do when cashback is missing.

FAQ

Which app gives the most cashback? For total pounds, TopCashback's app — it's the mobile front-end to the site MSE finds pays the highest rate in over 70% of checks, plus bounties and 100% offers. Instant gift-card apps like JamDoughnut pay faster in store; see best cashback apps UK.

Is TopCashback reliable? In my experience, yes: no genuine purchase missed in 123, roughly 20 payouts to my bank. The tools on this page exist to protect the one weak point — the click — and the legit review covers the downsides honestly.

Is TopCashback membership worth it? The free Classic tier is all you need for the app and extension. Plus (£5/year from earnings) unlocks higher rates and pays for itself once you earn £50–100 a year; my Plus review has the maths.
