Two of the easiest lines in my cashback account came from bills, not shopping: £45 for renewing car insurance and £22 for switching my energy to a cheaper supplier — both through TopCashback Compare, TopCashback's own comparison service. And two of the most confusing lines came from the comparison sites everyone knows: five "get cashback for a quote" bounties from Confused.com and Compare the Market that tracked at £0.00 and declined.

The difference between those outcomes is the whole point of this page.

TopCashback Compare: £1,260.63 insurance → £45.00 claimed (Dec 2025)

What TopCashback Compare pays right now

Compare quotes inside TopCashback, buy, and a flat bounty lands on top of whatever you saved by comparing:

Category Cashback
Car insurance £45
Home insurance £35
Travel insurance up to £207
Pet insurance £27
Motorbike insurance £26
Van insurance £38
Broadband up to £161
Energy up to £44
Mobile up to £46

Because they're flat amounts, they scale beautifully against cheap policies: £45 on a £300 premium is 15%; on my £1,260 premium it was 3.6% — still £45 I wouldn't otherwise have.

My two receipts

Car insurance, December 2025. I ran my renewal through TopCashback Compare, bought the policy (£1,260.63), and £45 tracked — then confirmed and paid. Insurance cashback is slow to confirm because insurers wait out the cooling-off period; mine went from pending to claimed without a hitch.

Energy, September 2026. I was on British Gas and Compare showed Fuse with better rates. Switched — cheaper tariff and £22 cashback, currently pending. The switch itself was the standard 5-working-day process; the cashback is the bonus for doing it via Compare rather than going direct.

The five bounties that paid nothing (and why)

Now the cautionary half. In my account sit three Confused.com lines and two Compare the Market lines, all £0.00, all declined. These were the classic "get £X cashback for getting a quote / buying through the comparison site" offers.

Confused.com: three quote-bounty lines, all £0.00 and declined
Confused.com: three quote-bounty lines, all £0.00 and declined

Why they failed while TopCashback Compare paid:

  • Quote bounties have strict conditions — typically you must buy the policy through that comparison site's link within a window, and some exclude renewals or specific insurers. Get a quote and buy elsewhere and it declines.
  • Two layers of tracking. Comparison-site cashback routes through TopCashback → the comparison site → the insurer; a break anywhere kills it. Compare is one layer: TopCashback owns the journey.
  • Duplicate quotes log multiple lines that later cancel.

The lesson I now follow: for insurance and energy, use TopCashback Compare directly rather than clicking a comparison-site bounty. It's the same comparison — Compare is powered by an established comparison engine — with a bounty that actually landed in my account.

How to do it

  1. Go to TopCashback Compare and choose the category (car, home, energy, broadband…).
  2. Fill in the quote form inside TopCashback and pick your deal.
  3. Complete the purchase or switch in the same session.
  4. The bounty appears as pending and is "uplifted" to the full amount once the provider confirms — insurance after the cooling-off period, energy once the switch completes. Don't cancel inside the first weeks.

FAQ

What is TopCashback Compare? It's TopCashback's own comparison service for insurance, energy, broadband, mobile and mortgages — you compare quotes from major providers inside TopCashback and get a flat cashback bounty on top of the deal you choose.

How much cashback is it for switching energy? Currently up to £44 through TopCashback Compare Energy (my switch paid £22). Compare that with the saving on the tariff itself — the cashback is the bonus, the cheaper tariff is the main prize.

Is TopCashback Compare better than Compare the Market for cashback? In my account, yes: two TopCashback Compare purchases paid £45 and £22; five comparison-site quote bounties (Confused.com, Compare the Market) declined at £0. The comparison-site bounties can pay, but their conditions are stricter and the tracking has more points of failure.
