On 25 November 2025 I bought a year of McAfee for £89.23. TopCashback paid me £89.23. That's not a typo and it's not a sale — it's a 100% cashback window, the kind antivirus and VPN companies run to win new subscribers, and it turned a full-price security suite into a free one. This page is how it happened, how to catch the next one, and — because you'll see it in your account too — what the scary "declined" line next to it actually means.

Disclosure: cashback links here are my referral links — free for you (you get a £10 bonus). No relationship with McAfee.
What a 100% cashback window is
Subscription software has near-zero marginal cost and high renewal value, so McAfee, Norton, the VPNs and others periodically pay cashback sites the entire first-year price to acquire a new customer. The cashback site passes it to you. You pay full price at McAfee's checkout, and weeks later the full price lands in your cashback account. The catch is purely behavioural: it must be a new customer, bought in the cashback session, with no unlisted code, and you have to remember to cancel auto-renewal before year two bills at full price.
My McAfee receipt, line by line
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| McAfee (annual plan), paid at checkout | £89.23 |
| TopCashback, 100% new-customer rate | +£89.23 (claimed, paid out) |
| Net cost of a year's antivirus | £0.00 |
Timing wasn't luck: it was 25 November — Black Friday week. Antivirus 100% windows cluster around Black Friday and the January "new year security" push; my PIA VPN 99.7% deal was late November too. If you need security software, that's when to buy it — through a cashback site.
The "declined" line — don't panic
Right above my paid McAfee line sits a second McAfee entry: £89.23, declined. It's the same purchase logged twice by the tracking, with the duplicate cancelled — the pattern that shows up across my account (Argos did the same). The real transaction paid in full. If you see a duplicate decline next to a paid line, nothing's wrong; if you see only a decline, raise a claim (process here).
How to catch the next antivirus window
- Favourite McAfee, Norton and the VPNs in the TopCashback app and switch on rate alerts — boosted rates trigger notifications.
- Watch Bounty Watch — I list 100%+ windows as I see them.
- Buy from a fresh account/email if you've had that brand before; "new customer" is decided by the retailer.
- Pick the plan the offer covers — 100% deals often apply to specific plans (e.g. Total Protection annual) and exclude add-ons.
- No coupon-site codes. McAfee's own Deals page discount is applied by McAfee (fine); a random 10% code is the classic cashback-killer. And on a 100% deal, a 10% code is worse — it reduces the price the 100% is calculated on.
- Calendar the renewal date and cancel auto-renew once the cashback confirms.
The same rules produced my VPN wins and two VPN declines — that story is here.
McAfee's own deals (when no cashback window is live)
McAfee's Deals page routinely knocks 60–70% off the first year without any code; TechRadar tracks sale pricing (up to $150 off, current sale to early October); Student Beans has a student discount; 10% codes circulate on Hotukdeals. Stack any of McAfee's own pricing with whatever cashback rate is live — but if a 100% window is on, ignore discounts entirely and pay list price through the cashback link.
Is McAfee worth it in 2026?
Windows' built-in Defender covers basic antivirus well, so McAfee's case rests on the extras: identity monitoring, VPN, password manager, multi-device cover. At full price, debatable; at 60–70% off, reasonable; at 100% cashback, obviously yes — the only cost is remembering to cancel before renewal.
FAQ — real questions people ask Google
How to get a discount on McAfee? McAfee's Deals page gives 60–70% off the first year with no code; students get more via Student Beans. Then buy through a cashback site — during boosted windows the cashback alone has reached 100% (my receipt above).
Is McAfee worth it in 2026? For basic antivirus, built-in protection is decent; McAfee earns its keep on identity monitoring, VPN and multi-device plans. At a first-year discount or — better — a 100% cashback window, it's clearly worth it.
How to get McAfee subscription for free? Buy a new subscription through a cashback site during a 100% cashback window (mine was Black Friday week, 25 Nov 2025: paid £89.23, got £89.23 back). Follow the new-customer rules and cancel auto-renewal before year two.
What is the best McAfee deal right now? Check TopCashback's live McAfee rate first; if it isn't boosted, McAfee's Deals page first-year discount (60–70% off) plus the standard cashback rate is the best available.
My McAfee figures are from my own TopCashback account (screenshot shown), November 2025. McAfee offers as seen 8 September 2026 and rotate; 100% cashback windows are periodic and not guaranteed.
