So the arithmetic on a £100 full-price pair of trainers:

• No code, web, full price: 6% cashback → £6 back.
• 10% first-order code: £90 paid, cashback drops to ~2% → £1.80 back → total saving £11.80. The code still wins — but by £5.80, not £10.
• Sale item at £70, no code: ~2% → £1.40; the sale did the work.

Rule of thumb: codes beat cashback at JD, but never assume you'll get 6% on top of one. And since app orders are also cut to ~2%, order on the website.

From my own orders: adidas direct paid me 9%, Sports Direct 2%. JD's 6%-on-full-price is competitive — the highest headline among the multi-brand sports retailers — but only if you're paying full price, which at JD is rarer than it sounds given the constant sale sections.
