Currys Cashback: Why I Got Just £11.66 on a £1,165 Buy (and How to Get 10%)

Currys cashback is advertised as "up to 15%". My receipt says 1%: a £1,165.83 order that returned £11.66. Both numbers are true — and the gap between them is the whole lesson of this page. At Currys, the category you buy from decides your rate, and a TV shopper and a phone shopper spending the same money can walk away with cashback ten times apart.

What my £11.66 actually teaches

My purchase fell in the low-rate bucket, so 1% is what a £1,165 order earns. Still free money — £11.66 I'd otherwise not have — but had that budget gone on a £1,000+ TV, the same click would have returned about £116.

The practical rule for big electronics: check the category rate before you decide where to buy. On a similar-sized purchase at Argos a year earlier, I got 3% — £35.97 back on £1,199 — three times Currys' rate on my basket. Same money, different retailer, triple the cashback.

1. Look up the category rate for the exact thing you're buying on TopCashback (and glance at Quidco).
2. Click through, add to basket, and pay in the same session — don't wander off to compare prices and come back via Google.
3. Use only discounts shown on the cashback page or Currys itself; third-party codes are the classic decline trigger.
